35 years later, authorities call Manchester woman’s disappearance suspicious

WMUR December 28, 2016

MANCHESTER, N.H. — State authorities say they have received new information about the disappearance of a Manchester woman in 1981 that led them to file a missing person report 35 years later.

Denise Beaudin was 23 when she and her boyfriend, Robert “Bob” Evans, 37 at the time, were last seen in 1981.

A missing person report for Beaudin was finally placed this year after authorities said they received new information. She has also been placed into the National Crime Information Center as a missing person, officials said.

According to the New Hampshire Cold Case Unit, Beaudin's disappearance is considered suspicious.

The couple spent Thanksgiving at Beaudin’s family’s home in Goffstown on Nov. 26, 1981, authorities said. Beaudin and Evans did not mention their intent to leave the area at the time.

Authorities said that Beaudin’s family visited her Hayward Street home in Manchester on Dec. 1 to find that Beaudin and Evans were gone. At the time, the couple faced financial issues, so the family assumed the couple left the area to avoid the issues. A missing person report for Beaudin was not filed at the time.

Beaudin and Evans have not been heard from since.

Beaudin is described as white and 5 feet 4 inches to 5 feet 6 inches tall. She weighed 120-140 pounds at the time she was last seen. She has brown hair, brown eyes and a noticeable overbite.

Authorities said that after graduating high school, Beaudin moved around before settling in Manchester. She used to work at General Cable on McGregor Street and The Demers Nursing Home on Hackett Hill Road.

According to officials, Beaudin had a young female infant daughter with her when she was last seen in 1981. That daughter's whereabouts are known, and she is not considered missing.

Evans, meanwhile, is white with brown hair and blue eyes. He is between 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet 1 inch tall. At the time, Evans weighed approximately 170 pounds.

A missing person report has not been filed for Evans.

Authorities are asking anyone that knew Beaudin or Evans from 1976 to 1981, including anyone who worked with her, or were members of the Goffstown High School class of 1976, to contact Manchester police at 603-668-8711, Manchester Detective Sgt. McCabe at 603-792-5505, or anonymously via the Manchester Police Crimeline at 603-624-4040.

Missing persons, last seen in 1981: Did you know Denise Beaudin or Bob Evans? By: Carol Robidoux  ManchesterInkLink.com Dec 28, 2016

CONCORD, NH —

NH authorities are seeking the public’s assistance regarding a Manchester woman who disappeared under suspicious circumstances more than 35 years ago.

Denise Beaudin, born Jan. 7, 1958,  was 23 when she was last seen by her family in 1981. According to her family, Denise and her boyfriend, Robert “Bob” Evans, born June 22, 1944,  spent Thanksgiving at her family home in Goffstown on November 26, 1981. Neither Denise nor Bob mentioned that they were leaving the area at that time. Less than a week later, on December 1, 1981, Denise’s family went to visit her at her home in Manchester. When they arrived at Denise’s home at 925 Hayward St., neither Denise nor her boyfriend Bob were there.

At the time, Denise and Bob were having financial difficulties, so Denise’s family assumed the couple left to avoid those issues. Denise has not been seen or heard from since.

New information has been obtained regarding Denise’s disappearance. Based on that information, a missing person report has been generated and Denise has been placed into NCIC (National Crime Information Center) as a missing person. Denise Beaudin is a white female, who was about 5-foot-5 inches tall. She had an average build and weighed between 120 – 140 pounds. Denise had brown hair, brown eyes, and a noticeable overbite.

She graduated from Goffstown New Hampshire High School in 1976. After graduating, Denise moved around before ultimately settling in Manchester. Denise’s work history included employment at General Cable at 345 McGregor St. in Manchester, and The Demers Nursing Home at 191 Hackett Hill Road.

Denise had a young female infant daughter with her when she was last seen in 1981. That daughter’s whereabouts are known and she is not missing.

Authorities are asking anyone that knew Denise Beaudin or Robert “Bob” Evans during 1976 up until the time she disappeared in 1981 to contact them. That includes people from Denise’s high school graduating class, neighbors in the Hayward Street area during 1980 and 1981, and anyone else that may have known her and her boyfriend.

Denise’s family described Robert “Bob” Evans as a’white male, about 6 feet tall with a thin build, weighing approximately 170 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. Anyone with information about Denise Beaudin or Robert “Bob” Evans is asked to contact the Manchester Police Department at (603) 668-8711, or Manchester Detective Sergeant McCabe in the Manchester Police Detective Division (603) 792-5505.

A person wishing to remain anonymous can also contact Manchester Police Crimeline at (603) 624-4040 to provide an anonymous tip.

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) -- When a New Hampshire woman disappeared 35 years ago, her family assumed she and her boyfriend left town to avoid money troubles. But on Tuesday, authorities said they consider her a missing person and have begun a criminal investigation based on new information.

The state attorney general's office said Denise Beaudin's family last saw her on Thanksgiving 1981, when she was 23, with her boyfriend, Robert "Bob" Evans, and her infant daughter. When relatives went to visit her Manchester home a few days later, the couple and baby were gone. The family did not contact police at the time, said Jeffery Strelzin, senior assistant attorney general and chief of the homicide unit.

"It was a different time, you had no cellphones, no social media, so it was different," he said.

Investigators have been in touch with Beaudin's daughter, Strelzin said.

"We know where she is, we've identified her, she's alive and well," he said of the daughter. "She doesn't want her identity released at this time, but she's OK."

Evans, who was 37 at the time, is now 72, and authorities know where he is, Strelzin said. He declined to provide more information about Evans, or what led authorities to begin investigating.

Beaudin's name has been added to the National Crime Information Center's missing persons database, which includes records of people missing under circumstances indicating they may be in physical danger or their disappearance may not have been voluntary.

Strelzin said authorities will provide more details in a few weeks, but they wanted to get the word out this week, when those who knew Beaudin might be back in the area for the holidays.

Police want to hear from anyone who knew Beaudin or Evans between 1976 and 1981, including her high school classmates or neighbors in the area around Hayward Street in Manchester.

3 women who went missing from one square mile in Manchester within 18 months of each other:

And then there is the 1984 disappearance of Shirley "Tippy" McBride (out of Concord) whose family had only recently moved from Manchester.

And in the Manchester City Directory for 1978/1979, the McBrides are living at 168 Merrimack St which is .2 miles  from where Laureen Rahn would go missing in 1980.

    2. I was responding to the question that was posed at the beginning of the article yesterday, it's no longer there, but yesterday it was in bold print, inquiring where it was said that Strelzin stated that they knew where Evans was. I suppose its irrelevant now. :)

    3. I posted the Q because the article misquoted Strelzin. I called the newspaper and told them to fact check their source on the quote. They changed the wording so I took the question down. It used to say "Strelzin has said investigators know where Evans, now 72, is living, but can’t provide that information until a news conference?" It now says" Strelzin has said investigators know where Evans, now 72, is, but can’t provide that information until a news conference."

  8. Have these girls' DNA been checked against those in the barrels? I was wondering if there was any chance some of the girls who went missing from the area might possibly have been half-sisters and weren't aware of it? Maybe due to crazy life circumstances, or perhaps shame, it wasn't mentioned to them and they both involuntarily ended up victims of the same man? There are some similiarities between them that it could be worth looking into.
